SUIS Wanyuan Middle School originated from SUIS Hongqiao Campus. After more than 20 years of development, Pioneer Class curriculum was successively established on top of China’s national curriculum framework. The curriculum emphasizes a balanced approach to bilingual instruction (Chinese and English), the integration of specialized and interdisciplinary studies, and the harmony between standardized learning and individualized development. The construction of subject-based classrooms and subject clusters has been developed parallelly. Remarkable explorations have been made in areas such as integrated STEM courses, integrated “humanistic walking” courses for liberal arts, double-system English teaching, elective courses, annual enrichment trip, and student exchange programs. Wanyuan middle School implements a subject-classroom- walking class system, at the same time established a practice-oriented moral education framework that includes whole-staffs involvement in student development and a behavioral merit-point system for students. It preserves the strengths of traditional Chinese education while aligning its teaching organization and management with international high school standards. Scientific and efficient management system, along with dedicated and professional teaching staffs, are also keys to ensuring the successful implementation of this program.

Featured Courses

Academic Specialized Courses:

As middle school students’ cognitive abilities continue to develop, we actively encourage academically capable students to participate in international academic competitions to broaden their global perspectives and enhance their academic competitiveness. The school also offers academic specialized courses for students with related needs, helping them achieve excellence in various international competitions.

Museum Theme Courses:

The museum theme courses cultivated the educational goals of ‘broadening horizons’ and ‘fostering collaboration’. The course is divided into three parts: pre-class preparation, exploration in museum, and after-class presentation. Students need to complete the work in groups in each part. ‌This also aligns with the educational goal of fostering ‘cultural exchange between China and the world’ and ’embracing diversity’.

Immersive Professional Foreign Teacher Led Courses:

Nearly half of the class hours in the middle school are taught by foreign teachers, including English, bilingual mathematics, science and DT, physical education, art, and music. Foreign teacher English adopts stratified and class-walking teaching to accommodate different student pathways. By utilizing the internationally recognized MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) assessment system, it dynamically tracks students’ English proficiency across disciplines, ensuring seamless transition into high school’s international curriculum.

Rich and Diverse Student Clubs and School Sports Teams:

Middle School offers over 30 student clubs and sports teams covering arts, athletics, social humanities, natural sciences, and hands-on activities, all co-led by Chinese and foreign teachers. Adopting a star-rating management system, the division sets tiered goals for clubs at different levels, encouraging both students and teachers to progress toward professional standards.

Overseas student exchange Program:

The middle school department has signed agreements with prestigious international schools across multiple countries, facilitating overseas exchange programs. These initiatives immerse students in high-quality educational environments where they explore cultural differences between East and West while enhancing personal development. Since its launch, the program has built bridges of friendship between students, families, faculty, and administrative teams at both SUIS Wanyuan and its overseas sister schools, laying a solid foundation for students’ future overseas studies

No matter how the external environment changes, the school will strive to meet the developmental needs of every child.

By preparing them for a future full of possibilities,

we empower each child to thrive and become their true selves within the Wanyuan Xiehe educational ecosystem.
