Community Service

Community service has always been a key component of SUIS-WY’s mission. Through community service, students will not only appriciate the value of their own power, learn to care, love and cherish, build a sense of social responsibility and self-worth, but it allows students to expand their horizons, and enrich the school life.

School events support

In various school events, students have the opportunity to participate as volunteers to support school events as part of their community service requirement. For example, they assist during Open House Day or take on responsibilities in various roles for talent shows and drama performances. These supportive activities allow students to leverage their strengths, enhance their sense of responsibility and leadership, and lay the foundation for the skills required in future university studies

Mind Harbor

Mind Harbor is a psychology society run by high school students, dedicated to raising mental health awareness and well-being among their peers. Each year, Mind Harbor organizes the School Mental Health Month, along with monthly art therapy sessions, providing a platform for high school students to relieve stress, enhance self-awareness, and practice self-care.

Lumonious Teaching

The Lumonious Teaching Program, organized by our high school students, provides online English and mathematics instruction to a partner primary school in Yangliu Township, Yunnan. Students involved in the program dedicate time each week to prepare lessons and deliver live online classes, offering children in rural areas access to a more diverse knowledge base and more effective learning methods.

WY Elf Society

WY Elf Society is a student organization established through the collaboration of students from WY High School and “Be Your Eyes(蓝睛灵),” a public welfare organization focused on supporting the visually impaired individuals. The society regularly plans and assists in activities for visually impaired individuals, such as museum visits, audio-described movie screenings, outdoor sports, and craft workshops. It also raises public awareness on how to interact with visually impaired people equally through brochures, online activities, and offline events. Additionally, the society organizes braille study groups and “accompanying runner” training programs to enhance volunteers’ and members’ relevant skills for supporting the community.

Student Photographers

The high school photography team is highly active at various campus events. With their excellent photography skills, the students capture lively moments and carefully produce vibrant event highlights, preserving valuable memories of campus life.

 “SUIS WY x Buy42” Charity Station

The “SUIS WY x Buy42” Charity Station is a community service practice base jointly established by SUIS Wanyuan and Buy42 Charity Store(善淘慈善商店). It currently also serves as the online store location for Buy42. The station is primarily managed by high school students, with participation from students across elementary, middle, and high school. Students are involved in various activities such as collecting idle items, operating the online store, and organizing offline charity sales. The proceeds from the charity station are used to provide sustainable employment opportunities for people with disabilities and those facing challenges.

Book Bank

Initiated and organized by high school students, the Book Bank has established a platform for students in Wanyuan to recycle and reuse old books. The project encourages students to collect and recycle used books, with high-quality selections being added to the school library’s collection. Additionally, some books are sold at low prices through both on-campus and online platforms, serving students and families in need. By promoting the reuse of old books, the Book Bank also contributes to waste reduction and environmental protection.

Roots and Shoots

Roots and Shoots dedicated to promoting environmental awareness and sustainable practices. Members from Roots and Shoots actively engage in a variety of eco-friendly initiatives, including Collecting used batteries,
composting fertilizer liquid in later use, taking care of greenhouse soil and plant vegetables, collecting and recycling electronics and decorating the recycling box.

Animal Protection and Rescue

Members from Animal Protection and Rescue society works at local animal shelters during weekend to promote animal adoption. They created brochures and talked to people, sharing the stories of lovely animals waiting for homes. Through their efforts, many animals found their forever family.

Student Ambassador

Campus Ambassadors are responsible for fostering communication and collaboration between the school and the community, representing the school in various activities and community projects. They organize and participate in both on-campus and off-campus events, including open houses, admissions promotion events, and community services activities. Additionally, they work closely with campus organizations, student councils, and school administration to provide feedback and suggestions for the school.

Translator

High school students actively serve as translators in various on-and off-campus activities, including Open House events, parent-teacher conferences, and campus visits. Through their linguistic skills and cultural understanding, they facilitate clear communication between all participants, ensuring smooth operations and fostering an inclusive environment. This valuable experience not only enhances their language proficiency but also strengthens their sense of social responsibility.

Buddy program

The Buddy Program aims to foster a more inclusive, supportive, and positive school community by establishing cross-grade friendships and a support system. Student Buddies, who are students from Grades 10-12, are responsible for guiding and assisting their assigned newcomers. Starting from New Student Orientation, Student Buddies connect with new students, giving them campus tours, introducing school facilities, sharing academic experiences, and answering questions about school life. This helps freshmen quickly adapt to high school, alleviating their anxiety and sense of unfamiliarity.

Charity Bazaar

March is our SUIS Wanyuan Chairity Theme Month. Every year during this month, the school also holds the “Love at Wan Yuan” Charity Bazaar to collect resources for various school charity events. On this day, all teachers, students, and parents from SUIS WY elementary, middle, and high school actively participate in the charity sale.

Career day

On the High School Career Day, the school invites companies from various fields to campus. Through diverse activities such as career initiation lectures, mock interviews, and career salons, students gain insights into the real workplace, are inspired to think about their future careers, and discover new possibilities for career planning. During the event, students have the opportunity to represent the school in hosting corporate guests, attend career lectures, participate in mock interviews, and even secure genuine internship opportunities.

“SUIS Wanyuan . I Share” Charity Program

Together with Shanghai Zhonggu Charity, SUIS wanyuan started the volenteer teaching program “SUIS Wanyuan . I Share” to build computer classrooms for rural schools. The school volenteer team and the Zhongggu Chrity staffs packed over 500 electronic devices that collected by the whole school community, visited a local school in Hubei Province. The team actively engaged in the whole process of of setting the computer classroom project, accompany local students in learning computer knowledge and skills, providing them with high-quality technical services. Together, they step into the digital age, share the spirit of public welfare, experience and spread love, and embrace a wonderful present and a bright future.

Shanghai Green Food Bank

SUIS WY collaborates with Shanghai Green Food Bank Public Welfare Development Center to launch the ” SUIS Wanyuan · Green Food Sharing” Public Welfare Week charity activities. Shanghai Green Food Bank Public Welfare Development Center (Green Food Bank) collects food from farms, food factories, retail stores and individual families, especially food to be wasted, and delivers it to needy people through proper transportation, storage and sorting. In last year’s Public Welfare Month activities, SUIS WANYUAN teachers and students donated a lot of surplus food to the Green Food Bank, and also donated a batch of “Love at SUIS Wanyuan” caring food packages to help those families in need.

SUIS Wanyuan Space Art Troupe

In 2018, SUlS WY Primary School established the “Wanyuan Xiehe Space ArtTroupe.” This was the first art troupe in the Wanyuan campus dedicated topublic welfare activities. To date, we have organized multiple communitycharity performances, bringing warmth and care to elderly groups, and havereceived widespread praise. In 2019, the “Wanyuan Xiehe Space Art Troupewas awarded the “Virtuous and Talented” honor by the Community PartyBuilding Service Center of Gumei Road Subdistrict.
