English:
The dual-teacher English course is the core module of the Pioneer Class curriculum. Under the joint leadership of two English group heads, one Chinese and one foreign, the English department has adopted a 1:1 class hour allocation system for both Chinese and foreign teachers to comprehensively enhance students’ English proficiency and literacy.
One of the key focuses of English courses is on graded reading. The school has purchased an online graded reading account for each student. At the beginning of each semester, foreign teachers will take the students to the computer room for a diagnostic assessment to test their English reading proficiency. The graded reading system will be based on the student’s actual reading ability, recommend suitable books for him/her to read and study every day.
At the end of the semester, teachers will conduct a summative assessment for each student, providing objective data feedback on their overall reading performance, including reading time, vocabulary acquisition, and reading proficiency levels throughout the term. The school’s initial plan on achieving the reading target for G1 to G5 students by grade:
In Grade 1, students typically read about 50 words per day in the first semester and 100 words per day in the second semester, totaling approximately 20,000 words for the year. By Grade 5, their daily reading volume increases to around 600 words, with an annual total of about 130,000 words. When students advance to Grade 3 and Grade 5, the school provides opportunities for them to take the TOEFL Primary and TOEFL Junior assessments. In these internationally recognized English proficiency tests, our students consistently outperform the national average in listening, reading, speaking, and other language skills
