All along, I am attracted by the kind of education where it provides students with full of opportunities, it empowers students to explore, helps students identify their potentials and fulfill their dreams. This is one of the reasons I chose to transfer to SUIS Wanyuan USHS as a 10th grader from a typical Chinese middle school.
I was still very worried when I make the choice. After all, I didn’t have any experience in international schools, I didn’t know anyone here, and all the courses were taught by expat teachers in English except Chinese classes. Fortunately, the various platforms provided by SUIS Wanyuan USHS allowed me to quickly adapt to the new learning environment, integrate into the new collective, and find my own passions.
For girls, soccer has always been a less recognized sport. The athletes ran on the court, rushing from one side of the court to the other in order to have a goal. But I was deeply attracted to the sport, and I enjoyed the feeling of moving forward.
I have to say that joining the drama club led by Mr. Manno is the smartest decision I have ever made. With his guidance, we were able to write our own script and even direct our own play Almost Maine. My growth through drama is not only reflected in my ability to interpret different roles in English, but also in my communication skills and resilience. The whole experience also enables me to recognize the different aspects of drama and another side of me.
University Application
The whole DIY college application process is the perfect summary of my high school life, but also the most difficult part, which can also be said to be painful and memorable. My college application was not as favoring as I expected, and my application season was destined to be extraordinary from the moment I filled in the wrong SAT registration name (so do pay attention to every detail in your application). I still clearly remember the anxiety I had when I kept writing and editing my application essays since the end of grade 11, looking for people to give me suggestions to make revisions (trust me the guidance teachers, English teachers and alumni are all great resources when you need help). In addition to application essays, the activity session of your application should also be taken seriously. It requires you to concentrate the essence of the activities that you participate in other than classes. I believe that only when you put time and energy into the activities you love can you write the best-fit resume. After I submitted my application, I was full of expectations, but I was disappointed and helpless when I received my first round admissions results(rejection letter and delayed offer, including Boston university where I applied EDI). But when I think back to what I did in SUIS in the past few years, I know that I have no reason to give up.
Just like what I used to say to my teammates on the field ” just go for it”, I went all out to apply for my EDII school (New York university). At the same time, I also timely updated my new grades and achievements to my deferred schools. In the end, I was admitted to my dream school – New York university, and Boston university also offered me a place, which is undoubtedly the best affirmation of what I have learned in SUIS. The application process is not replicable, and everyone has their own strengths and highlights. What I want to emphasize is the perception of oneself: the future you aspire to, and what you know about yourself. Only by making sure of these, can you let admissions officers know you well and like you in your application, and then admit you.
