Asia Carnival Closing Ceremony is coming

盛世唐朝的开幕式精彩场景还历历在目，当孩子们还沉浸在各学科丰富多彩的探究学习中时，我们小学部为期一个月的洲际嘉年华即将闭幕，亚洲—溯源东方印迹，揽胜亚洲传奇，将在下周五12月14日迎来盛大的闭幕典礼！

We are still lingering around the opening ceremony of flourishing age of Tang Dynasty, as well as immersing ourselves in the inquiry studies in each subject, the one-month interstate carnival in SUIS Wanyuan is coming to an end. The 14th of December will usher this carnival with the topic “Asia—Tracing back Asian footprint, Grasping Asian legend” to a grand closing ceremony.

INQUIRY 探究 ♫. ♪~♬..♩

Inquiry learning is all about investigation and discovery so what better way could there be to explore Asia than with SUIS Wanyuan campus Inquiry team!

一年级学生观察了一些东南亚国家的重要特征，包括艺术，文学，旗帜和节日。在泰国，我们创造了krathongs来庆祝泰国节日Loy Krathong，即“灯节”。我们还了解并制作了蜡染印花，这是印度尼西亚本土的艺术品。

Grade 1 went on a whirlwind tour of South East Asia focusing on culture; looking at the important characteristics of the countries, including art, literature, flags, and festivals. In Thailand, we created krathongs to celebrate the Thai festival of Loy Krathong, the “Festival of Lights”. We also learned about and made batik prints, an artwork indigenous to Indonesia.

二年级学生探索的地区是印度！他们学会了数数，甚至还能用印度文来书写！孩子们也了解了像排灯节这样的南亚节日，以及精美的Rangoli图案，他们自己设计制作了Rangoli来欢迎和邀请您参加我们下周五的嘉年华闭幕式！

Venturing further south, Grade 2 discovered India! They learnt how to count and even write in Hindi! The journey also introduced them to South Asian festivals like Diwali and wonderful Rangoli designs that will be used to welcome and you to the Carnival Closing Ceremony next Friday!

离家更近，三年级的学生们想要了解中国古代丝绸之路贸易的起源，并探究丝绸之路对其沿途贸易城市的产生的影响。经过课堂以及课下的学习探究孩子们还把自己的探究结果写在了亲自制作的折叠式书本上，并与他人进行分享。后来学生们收集了一些有关在古丝绸之路上发现的工艺品图片，并在课堂上亲手制作了这些工艺品。

Closer to home, the students of Grade 3 wondered about the origins of trade along the ancient Chinese Silk Road and investigated its effects on trading posts along the routes; making zigzag books to share with others. They then collected research about artefacts that have been found along the ancient Silk Road to make handcrafted versions in the classroom!

4年级有幸创建了“酷国报告”，介绍了代表东亚的5个国家，即中国，蒙古，日本，朝鲜和韩国。该项目有助于加强他们的写作技巧，使他们接触不同的文化。您将会更惊讶与亚洲的魅力！

Grade 4 had the pleasure of creating “Cool Country Reports” to introduce 5 countries that represent East Asia: China, Mongolia, Japan, North Korea and South Korea. Strengthening their writing and research skills; they will be sure to amaze you with Asia!

五年级的学生们开启了一趟日本之旅. 结合我们之前的主题“保护环境”我们在各个教室收集废纸，用亚洲传统技术重造废纸。学生们在再造纸上写日本俳句诗，画日本樱花，多么美妙的日本之旅！

Grade 5 students took A Journey to Japan and supported their previous work on Conservation by recycling their own paper using a traditional Asian technique. This paper was then used for our Haikus and paintings of Cherry Blossoms to complete the Japanese experience.

CHINESE 语文

语文课上，孩子们开启了丰富多彩的亚洲文学的旅程：各国经典儿童绘本和诗歌的学习和仿写；中国历朝历代的那些有关文化的事儿，唐诗、宋词、元曲……或配画，或诵读，小组合作完成汇报手册；三国传奇那段熠熠生辉的历史，在老师的引导下，阅读感悟，认识了那一个个鲜活的面容；日本俳句的学习，让孩子们了解了它的起源和发展，中国文化在日本的传播和影响……这一点一滴的学习和探究，让孩子们了解了我们所在的这个世界第一大洲的灿烂文化，深深激发了他们的自豪感和进一步探究的兴趣！

In Chinese class, the children start the journey to explore the wonderfulness of Asian literature, such as the learning and imitating classical children’s picture books and poems in various countries; the related cultural events of Chinese dynasties, Tang poems, Song poems, Yuan songs, etc,in the forms of painting , reciting, or group cooperation to complete the report manual; reading and understanding of the brilliant history of the Three Kingdoms legend under the guidance of the teacher.; Japanese haiku learning which helps children understand its origin and development ,also the influence of Chinese culture in Japan. All these study and activities motivate the children to explore the splendid culture of our world’s largest continent, and deeply stimulate their sense of pride and interest in further exploration!

MATHEMATICS 数学

数学，在生活中应用广泛，建筑与艺术创作中则更是普遍存在于视野里，如果建筑和数学、艺术结合起来，那成果肯定会让你叹为观止。
在亚洲嘉年华中，低年级的孩子们运用不同的材料，结合数学学科中的轴对称知识、体积的认识，制作了亚洲各种著名的景点和建筑，长城、天安门、天坛、东方明珠、双子塔、泰姬陵……。中高年级的孩子则是把美术与数学相融合，绘制了亚洲国家及景点的缩略图，运用草间弥生的创作理念，设计了自己独特的艺术作品。
数学的世界如此奇妙，快和我们一起领略亚洲的风采吧！
Mathematics is widely used in daily life , you would be definitely impressed if the architectures and art become the elements of mathematics projects. .
In the Asian Carnival, students of the lower grades have used various materials by applying the knowledge of axisymmetry and volume to make many famous attractions and buildings in Asia, the Great Wall, Tiananmen Square, Temple of Heaven, Oriental Pearl Tower, and Twin Towers. Taj Mahal… While the middle and upper grade children have combined art and mathematics by made thumbnails of Asian countries and well-known attractions, and have designed their unique and great works which were inspired by Yayoi Kusama’s creative concepts.
The world of mathematics is full of surprises and let’s enjoy the Asian style together in SUIS Wanyuan！

ENGLISH 英语

每年的英语学科活动“万源之声 The Voice of Wanyuan”都是孩子们在嘉年华活动中特别期待的一次精彩体验。此次我们以“亚洲之声 Asia Voice” 为主题。通过音乐了解亚洲文化的魅力，感知亚洲各国语言文化的特色和差异，了解歌曲的创作意图，进而了解歌曲背后蕴含的国家文化。孩子们演绎了来自越南、新加坡、蒙古、日本、韩国、中国、印度、阿拉伯等亚洲各国的歌曲，同时用英语介绍所选歌曲，从孩子们的角度去诠释他们对亚洲文化和亚洲精神的认识和理解。经过1个月的学习、准备、海选以及决赛，这段在孩子们学习生活中的美好回忆里记录了他们的努力、坚持、天赋以及孩子们努力绽放自己的快乐！孩子们，你们真棒！

‘The Voice of Wanyuan’ is a wonderful experience that children look forward to having in their annual carnival activities. This year, the topic is ‘Asian Voice’. Children learned the charm of Asian culture through music, perceiving the characteristics and differences of Asian languages and cultures, understanding the creative intentions of songs and lastly understanding the national culture behind the songs. Children performed songs from Aisan countries such as Vietnam, Singapore, Mongolia, Japan, South Korea, China, India, Arabia, etc., and introduce selected songs in English to explain their understanding of Asian culture and Asian spirit from the perspective of children. After a month of studying,preparations, auditions and finals, this wonderful documentation of the children’s learning, and personal recordings of their efforts, persistence and talents are finally ready to be showcased. Children, you are awesome!

ART 美术

当宣布2018年的嘉年华主题选为亚洲时，我们万分激动。这是我们十分亲近，每天生活的土地。学生们将会有机会去探索许多比邻国家的艺术和文化,，在此基础上进行艺术重构，例如：来自韩国的折扇装置艺术；日本工艺鲤鱼旗；印度的马赛克和几何图形构成的泰姬陵；菲律宾的部落纹身设计；印尼具有代表性的动植物色粉画；用拼贴的方式创新绘制的中国山水名作《千里江山图》。这些学生作品除了会在学校大堂进行展示以外，还有一部分会作为嘉年华音乐节目演出的道具，学生们在舞台上表演时，穿着自己设计的服饰，使用自己创作的道具，想必应该会感到非常兴奋吧。

The art department was very excited when the 2018 Carnival region was announced to be Asia. This is the region where we all live so it feels especially close to our hearts. The students had the opportunity to explore the art and culture of many countries near and far, including fan installation art from South Korea, fish crafts from Japan, mosaics and geometric painting from India, tribal tattoo designs from the Philippines, flora and fauna symbols from Indonesia, and landscape painting from China.In addition to creating an incredible display in the lobby, this is the first year collaborating closely with the music department to create some props and accessories. The students were thrilled to wear and use what they made themselves in art class, during their performance on stage.

MUSIC 音乐

2018年嘉年华，我们来到了亚洲大陆，来到了这个充满自然奇观、古老历史，有着丰富文化传统的大陆。这里有美丽的棕榈树环绕的海滩，古老的雨林，沙漠和世界上最高的山脉。亚洲不仅以其博大的自然美景，更是以他悠久的历史、独特的文化、多样的音乐和艺术，吸引了我们的眼球。从印度手鼓或印尼佳美兰合奏的复杂声音，到泰科击鼓的心跳节奏，再到蒙古喉音的和谐声调……可以说亚洲音乐的古老辉煌，燃起了我们对他的无限向往！在我们的音乐课上，我们透过音乐的视角探索亚洲。亚洲的声音叫醒了我们的耳朵，动人的美景撑起了我们的眼帘。我们学会了用新的语言唱歌，学习了来自各地的舞蹈和音乐。我们探索了黎巴嫩、以色列和阿塞拜疆的西部音乐，中国、日本和韩国的东部音乐，印度尼西亚、印度和菲律宾的南部音乐。在我们的闭幕式表演中，我们将邀请大家一起来欣赏神奇亚洲的音乐景观!

Our 2018 carnival brought us to the continent of Asia—to a region of the world filled with natural wonders, ancient history and a vast array of cultures and traditions. A place with beautiful palm-fringed beaches, ancient rainforests, deserts and some of the world’s tallest mountains. Not only has Asia captured our imaginations with its immense natural beauty, but also with its ancient history, unique cultures, and diverse range of music and art. From the intricate sounds of the Indian Tabla or the Indonesian Gamelan ensemble, to the heart-pounding rhythms of Taiko drumming and the harmonious sounds of Mongolian throat singing—the music of Asia intrigued us with its splendor. In our music classes, we have explored Asia through a musical lens. We opened our ears to new sounds and our eyes to new sights. We learned to sing in new languages and learned dances and music from around the region. We have explored the music of Lebanon, Israel and Azerbaijan to the West, China, Japan and Korea to the East, Indonesia, India, and Philippines to the South. With our closing ceremony performance we invite you all to enjoy the soundscape of Amazing Asia!

PE 体育

2018年亚洲嘉年华活动中，我们在体育课上让所有的学生都接触到源自亚洲地区的各种运动、游戏。例如，二年级和四年级的学生了解和学习了东南亚的一个非常著名的游戏—-Kong kak。一年级的学生则在老师的介绍下，学习了泰国一项非常著名的运动项目—-泰拳;五年级的学生对日本的相扑、空手道和剑道等运动也有了更进一步的了解;三年级的学生着重学习了中国功夫的相关文化和历史，并且在体育课堂上进行了练习。此外，所有学生学习了武术中的一套拳。往年的嘉年华体育老师教会了学生学习了不同国家的舞蹈，今年我们有机会教学生中国功夫。中国武术自古以来就对中国的文化和传统都是有着非常重要的意义，我们非常期待通过孩子们精彩的功夫表演来为2018年的亚洲嘉年华划上圆满的感叹号！

The 2018 Wan yuan Intercontinental Carnival has been a month long journey into the differing cultures that spread throughout the Asian continent. Students from all grades have been exposed to a vast array of sports, games and other activities that have originated from the regions of Asia they have studied for the duration of the carnival. For example grade 2 and 4 were introduced to a game from Southern and Eastern Asia named Kong kak. This a very famous game that is played by people of all ages in these regions. Grade 1 have been introduced to the very famous Thai sport called Muay Thai and Grade 5 learnt about such sports as Sumo wrestling, Karate and Kendo, all three sports originated and are still played in modern day Japan. Grade 3 have studied the history and traditions of different styles of Chinese Kung Fu and have also practiced these in their PE lessons. In addition the all students have also been introduced to the Chinese martial art of Kung Fu. Usually the PE department has taught the students a dance from a country that they are studying, however this year we had the opportunity to introduce and teach them Kung Fu as it holds such an importance in past and current Chinese culture and traditions. Once again the carnival has been a busy and exciting time for staff and students and we are excited to be having a whole pioneer primary Kung Fu performance to conclude the 2018 Intercontinental Carnival.

在2018年度的亚洲嘉年华中，除了各学科的精彩探究学习，我们每个年级，每一个班级都有自己的学习主题，每一位同学都用心探究、动手参与，享受着学习的快乐。当你步入学校大厅，你会被各学科的各具特色的成果展示深深吸引，当你跟随着游园的步伐进入小学楼，这里的精彩纷呈一定让你目不暇接，大开眼界。一年级的东南亚风情，二年级的秘境南亚，三年级的华夏寻根，四年级的传奇东亚，五年级的日出之国—日本，每一个楼层都会给你带来不同的景观，不一样的惊喜！这里的布置都是我们的老师和家长带着孩子们一边学习一边布置的哦！

Each grade and each class in this activity has their own topic around which the students experience their own heart to explore hands-on, enjoy the joy of learning. When you walk into the school hall, the characteristics of various disciplines and exhibitions will definitely attract your eyes. When you then come to the primary school building, Grade One of the Southeast Asia scenery ,the mysterious South Asia of Grade Two, Grade Three of Huaxia roots searching, Grade Four of the East Asian legend and Grade Five of Japan. Teachers and parents decorate them with the time we learn together with students.
