SSSA VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT

2018年11月24日，万源城协和双语学校成功举办了第一届SSSA排球季后赛。这是一场总共有十支男女队参加的比赛，分别来自上海国际学校、YKPao、KCIS、QB Dwight、GHC和SUIS Wanyuan等老牌国际学校。这些球队从9月17日赛季开始就一直在SSSVL比赛，每支球队都参加了循环赛并根据他们的最终记录列出种子选手队。

On November 24th, 2018, SUIS Wanyuan hosted its first SSSA Volleyball Playoffs. This was a competition that consisted of ten boys and girls teams in total. In attendance were Shanghai International Schools, YKPao, KCIS, QB Dwight, GHC and SUIS Wanyuan. These teams have been competing in the SSSVL since the start of their season on September 17th. Each team played in a round robin league set of games and were seeded according to their final record.

我们女排队虽然很多是高一高二的小将，但在教练有条不紊的训练和带领下，稳扎稳打在整个赛季中取得了佳绩。在与QB Dwight争夺第三名的比赛中用奋勇拼搏的意志晋级。最终女排姑娘们以1比2的总分名列第四。女队冉冉升起的明星队长Lilian Hao和高一新生Caroline Yu摘得明星队员奖。

Our Lady Wolves, led by coach Linda Li, set a foundation this year as many players were freshman and sophomores. They fought hard throughout the tournament and advanced to the consolation game in a fight for 3rd place against QB Dwight. They finished fourth place with a final score of 1 set to 2. Star players for the girls squad were Captain, Lilian Hao and freshman, Caroline Yu.

男队在教练Cheyenne Reed的带领下，赛季开始就一马当先，在与强大的YKPao队的第一场比赛中以零比零获胜，获得晋级入场券。在争夺冠军比赛中，我们遭遇劲敌KCIS。男排的队员们越战越勇，三盘过后，万源队以2比1的比分赢得了SSSVL冠军。Bruce Gu和Andrew Li获得了明星球员荣誉。万源体育场沸腾，我校队打了一个了不起的赛季，取得了伟大的胜利，我们是冠军!!!

Our boys’ varsity squad, led by Coach Cheyenne Reed, took charge early in the event winning their first game 2 sets to none against a strong YKPao team. With that win and high seed from league play, we advanced to the championship round where we played against top rival KCIS. After 3 sets, the SUIS Wanyuan Wolves came out victorious winning the SSSVL Championship 2 sets to 1. Star players were Bruce Gu and Andrew Li. You played an amazing season and great win at the playoffs Wolves, I mean CHAMPS !!!

国际青少年公益美术大赛一等奖

Student Ji Yichen won the first prize of the 4th Xinmei Cup International Youth Public Art Competition

2018年第四届新美杯国际青少年公益美术大赛，6月，正式启动，以“我的中国梦”为主题，通过2个多月的征集，收到近万件品。经过初评和复评，共甄选出227件优秀作品参展。协和双语万源城校区的美高10年级B班的季奕辰同学的《百年交响》版画作品在此次比赛中荣获“一等奖”。

The 4th New Beauty Cup International Youth Public Art Competition was officially launched in June, 2018. With the theme of “My Chinese Dream”, nearly 10,000 items were received through more than two months of collection. After the initial evaluation and re-evaluation, a total of 227 outstanding works were selected. The “One Hundred Years of Symphony” prints by Ji Yichen, student from USHS 10B class, won the “First Prize” in this competition.

第四届新美杯国际青少年公益美术大赛优秀作品展（上海站）于11月25日下午在上海市新美术馆隆重开幕。400余名参赛小朋友和艺术爱好者参加了开幕仪式。开幕式上中央美术学院国家艺术与文化政策研究所副所长王可老师，中国美院设计学院罗凌霞老师，上海徐汇艺术馆宣传典藏部主任徐健亮老师，分别为新秀奖、三等奖、二等奖和一等奖颁发证书，现场气氛热烈，展览将持续至12月3日。

The 4th Xinmei Cup International Youth Public Art Competition (Shanghai Station) was grandly opened at the Shanghai New Art Museum on the afternoon of November 25th. More than 400 participated children and art lovers attended the opening ceremony. At the opening ceremony, Mr. Wang Ke (deputy director of the National Academy of Arts and Cultural Policy of the Central Academy of Fine Arts), Mr. Luo Lingxia from the School of Design of China Academy of Art, and Xu Jianliang (director of the Propaganda and Collection Department of Shanghai Xuhui Art Museum) were respectively awarded the rookie award, the third prize, the second prize and the first prize. The atmosphere is lively. The exhibition will last until December 3rd.

此次展览由国家艺术与文化政策研究所与上海新美术馆共同主办；中国美术家协会美术教育委员会，中央美术学院美术教育中心，吴作人国际美术基金会少儿美术教育项目提供学术支持。据悉《第四届新美杯国际青少年公益美术大赛获奖作品上海展》于2018年11月25在上海新美术馆举办；《第四届新美杯国际青少年公益美术大赛精选作品纽约展》于2019年2月在美国纽约大都会展览馆（Metropolitan Pavilion, 125 W 18th St，New York City）展出。

The exhibition is co-sponsored by the National Institute of Art and Culture Policy and the Shanghai New Art Museum; the Art Association of the Chinese Artists Association, the Art Education Center of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, and the Wu Zuoren International Art Foundation Children’s Art Education Program provide academic support. It is reported that the “4th New Beauty Cup International Youth Public Art Competition Shanghai New Exhibition” was held at the Shanghai New Art Museum on November 25, 2018; “The 4th New Beauty Cup International Youth Public Art Competition Selected New York Exhibition” 2019 In February, it was exhibited at the Metropolitan Pavilion (125th Street, New York City).

《百年交响》作品介绍上海是国际金融中心，外滩建筑群作为百年上海以来最具代表性的地标和象征之一，她屹立在黄浦江畔上用自身的沧桑演绎了海纳百川，追求卓越的海派精神，见证了中国民族工商业的崛起和繁荣。小画家采用版画的艺术表现形式，运用橙色和蓝色冷暖对比强烈的色块，表现日出时的外滩，明亮的橙色预示着上海的希望。回看历史，期望未来。

《A Century of Symphony 》Wood block 4KJack JiSHANGHAI UNITED INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL (American High School, Grade 10) Shanghai is an international financial center. The architectural complexes on the Bund have always been one of the most iconic symbols of Shanghai for centuries. They stand along the Huangpu River, witnessing the thriving and prosperity of China’s development in industry and commerce. Meanwhile, they demonstrate the spirit of Shanghai Culture that embraces inclusiveness and diversity.

The artist employs the form of block print to present the Bund in sunrise by utilizing the sharp contrast of orange and blue; the brightness of orange implies the promising future of Shanghai. This artwork conveys the message of looking back on the history and expecting the future.

First membership of NSHSS in China

今年我们上海协和双语万源校区正式成为NSHSS联盟在中国大陆的第一个授权学校。这周四（11月15日）NSHSS的主席JAMES W. LEWIS来到了我们学校为学生们进一步的介绍精英学者联盟会。

This year, our school—Shanghai United International School, Wanyuan Campus—has officially become the first authorized NSHSS Chapter in mainland China. On November 15, JAMES W. LEWIS, the president of NSHSS, joined our school assembly to give a TED talk on NSHSS.

简介Introduction

National Society of High School Scholars 精英学者联盟会，简称NSHSS，是由美国初中高中校长联合会创办的一个全国性的高中社团，意在表彰学业优秀，有领导才能，有为社会服务精神及优秀的道德品质的高年级学生。

National Society of High School Scholars, commonly known as NSHSS, is a national-wide high school association in the U.S. founded by the American Federation of Junior High School Principals, NSHSS recognizes academic excellence and leadership, and reward students with such qualities with membership.

*该组织还有个姐妹协会叫做NJHS(National Junior Honor Society)，即美国国家初中荣誉生会，为初中阶段的学生所设立。

历史History

美国初中高中校长联合会(National Association of Secondary School Principals，简称NASSP)于1921年正式创立这个团体，第一个分会设立于宾夕法尼亚州匹兹堡市。至今，NSHSS在美国50个州，哥伦比亚、波多黎各、加拿大、土耳其、智利等国家都有设有分会。

In 1921, the American Federation of Junior High School Principals (NASSP) officially founded the Society, the first of which was founded in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. NSHSS has chapters in 50 states in U.S., and also chapters in Colombia, Puerto Rico, Canada, Turkey and Chile.

宗旨Tenets

根据该协会的创办宣言，所有的NSHSS分会都坚持以下宗旨:

According to the founding declaration of the association, all NSHSS chapters adhere to the following principles:

入会标准Membership criteria

NSHSS秉承的宗旨被视为决定成员入会标准的重要因素。入选或被邀请的学生在学业成绩、领导才能、社区服务及品德等各方面都有十分出众的表现。此协会将根据学生GPA和其他领域的表现作为参考，进行选拔筛选并最终发出入会邀请。

The tenets of the NSHSS are seen as an important factor in determining membership criteria. The students who were selected or invited had outstanding performance in academics, leadership, community service and moral character. The association will select students based on their performance in GPA and other fields, and eventually issue an invitation to join.

奖学金申请Scholarship applications

颁发奖学金被视为NSHSS 之所以成立的要素之一。协会每年将颁出固定金额的奖项，用于奖励那些在某一领域表现突出的高年级学生，为了更好的帮助他们在未来的求学之路实现更加远大的梦想。

The award of scholarships is seen as one of the key elements of the NSHSS’s success. Each year, the Association awards a fixed amount of money to reward seniors who excel in a particular field, in order to better help them realize their dreams of further study in the future.

目标Aim

我们学校的NSHSS旨在为优秀学生提供一个平台，将我们学校的优秀学生与其他国家志同道合的学生联系起来。与此同时，该协会还意在为我们的会员提供资源。荣誉社会与美国的顶尖大学和学院有紧密联系，包括常青藤联盟。荣誉社会还有17,000多名高中导师，大学院系和有影响力的学者报名参加NSHSS教育工作者。该组织旨在将这些资源带入我们的学校。很快，我们的学校也将与我们在美国加利福尼亚州的姐妹学校取得联系。

NSHSS in our school is aimed at providing top students a network to connect top students in our school to like-minded students in other countries. The society also aims to provide resources for our membership. Honor society is connected with top universities and colleges in the U.S, including the Iv league. Honor society also has more than 17,000 high school tutors, college faculties and influential scholars signed up as NSHSS educators. And this organization is aimed to bring these resources into our school. Soon, our school will also get connected to our sister chapter in California, U.S.

学生领导者团队Administration Group

学校现有的NSHSS学生领导者团队由七位表现突出的高年级学生组成，分别来自10年级与11年级。由美高11年级顾程凯带领，Honor Society学生团队不仅能够为学生提供充足的资源，也意在成为一个促进社团间交流与合作的平台。目前，我们已在每周例行的集会上向所有社团发出邀请，希望能将更多优秀的ECA社团连接在一起，从而扩大影响力并且实现资源共享的可能。此平台上已加入的社团包括英语辩论社，商社，Wanyuan Sport League，生物社，政治社等。

The school’s existing NSHSS administration group led by Bruce Gu consists of seven outstanding students from grades 10 and 11. Honor Society does not only provide sufficient resources for students, but also aim to function as a platform for promoting communication and cooperation between organizations. For now, we have already announced information and issued invitations to every club, hoping to connect excellent ECA clubs and make sources sharing become possible.
