SHINE YOUR POTENTIAL!!!
Last Saturday, January 27th 2018 our US High School had an exciting day of math rigorous challenging fun day at SUIS Wanyuan, called as Shanghai High School Math Contest (SHSMC). This is the first math international contest on campus that challenged us beyond the walls of the classroom.
Shanghai High School Mathematic Competition incorporated two academia contests with fame and prestige — American mathematic contest (AMC) and Waterloo Math Contest. To simulate these two contests effectively, SHSMC included three parts: individual written session, team buzzer round, and team relay session. It tests for the combination of flexible logical thinking and team working ability.
- INDIVIDUAL WRITTEN SESSION
- TEAM BUZZER ROUND
After the opening ceremony, the first part was the individual written session, where participants had opportunity to shine to their own potential. The contestants walked confidently out into the examination room ready of the next round, the team buzzer round. This session was the most fun where we working as a team of 6. The whole session was exciting and the air was full of tension with the sounds of buzzers, the volunteering runners passing the groups’ answers to the judges.
- TEAM RELAY SESSION
Wow! Then we leaped to the final session after lunch, the relay session, the team members sat in a rows of 3, each contestant was dependent on the subject of the latter contestant. If one person has it wrong then whole group answer is wrong. Every team member felt responsible to do their best. We experienced the power of trusting our team members. It was session to enjoy the beauty of math.
The exciting day ended with thrills and applauds with a grand closing ceremony where individuals and teams won golden trophies, glittering medals, gift cards and certificates. We thanks all our participants, judges and SUIS US math department Ms. Simpson, Dr. Daisy, Mr. Yin, and Ms. Akoto for all their support to make this happen.
